Friends of Cascade-Siskiyou National Monument: Hike & Learn: Hiking Through History with Dr. Jeff LaLande: Oct. 6th

October 6 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

On Friday, join hike leader, historian and US Forest Service archeologist, Dr. Jeff LaLande, in the Gresham Room at the Ashland Library. Dr. LaLande will lead us on a journey through history to the time the first white settlers came to Southern Oregon. He will give us an idea of what their experience was like, so that we might get a clearer, less romanticized ideal of the first emigrants to our area.

On the Saturday morning (10/7, 9:30-3pm), we will visit several places in the monument that were important to emigrants along the Applegate Trail, including some areas where evidence of the trail remains visible.

Hike Duration: about 4-5 hours. Length: Short hikes into archeological areas along the Applegate Trail.

Level: Easy – Moderate. Short hikes with little elevation gain.

On the day of the hike:
